votes. the open seat in california 26. we don't know what will happen there. 100% are in california. mary bono mack is behind. will she join her husband coming an ex-member of congress. bilbray is behind with 100% reporting in california. as we mentioned already, incumbent allen west is behind in florida 18 with all the votes supposedly counted. representative menechek is leading. that appears to be a couple thousand votes apart. mike mcintyre, will he be one of the few blue dogs that remains? he has a small lead. there will be a run-off for one house seat in louisiana, the third district. it will be between two republicans there. but if all those leads hold, nbc news is current ly projecting they could pick up eight seats in the house again. yes, we know all those 100%. mail ballots particularly out in the state of california so we'll see but if all leads hold it's a net pickup of eight seats for the democrats in the house. there's a lot more to come on this special two-hour post-election edition of "the daily rundown." i'm basically going on no sleep so you never know what i'm goi

is going to do. if he caucuses with the democrats, they'll have 55 seats in the house. in california's 36th district, republican congresswoman mary bono mack will not be returning to the hill. julia brownley wins the district 26 race. in michigan's first district, dan benishek is declared. republican. 100% reported in arizona's second district, gabby giffords' former seat, though it had had been redriked, democratic congressman ron barber is trailing by about 400 votes but no call there. in arizona's 9th district, 125 vote there. in california, lungren is trailing by less than 200 votes. in florida's 18th district, 100% of the vote is in. republican congressman allen west is trailing. seems a little bit too much to overcome. 2,500 votes. he's demanding a recount. you do wonder what happens if the florida presidential has to go in that direction. i'll explain that in a few minutes. north carolina, district 7, 100% in. the democrat incumbent there is in the lead but it is only 500 votes. there will be a runoff in louisiana's third dwikt between two republicans. >>> two races still too close t

that at some point i would like 0 to get back to california. panetta is likely to stay in the post through the budget negotiations and possibly through the spring when they do the next round of budgets. so does that mean he's willing to stay in the pentagon for four more years? for the pool report, panetta told reporters, quote, who the hell knows? my experience in washington is you'd better do this day-to-day. as we reported friday, one of the candidates for panetta's job, when he does go, is actually senator john kerry who is being considered for defense essentially as a consolation prize if he does not get the state department job which is what he truly covets because the assumption right now is, and there's a lot of support for her inside the white house, the president will nominate susan rice to succeed hillary clinton instead. but if rice does get nominated she could have a pretty big confirmation battle on her hands. many republicans, including a guy like south carolina senator lindsey graham who normally ends up confirming a lot of the president's appointments, did in the first ter

in congressman karen bass from california. let me talk with you about the climate. speaker boehner seemed a bit more willing to at least discuss and put things on the table that maybe were not there before specifically tax revenues. what is your feeling or sense as congressional leaders prepare to meet with the president per his invitation at the white house? >> i was encouraged by his tone. i thought his stone signaled compromise, however the devil is in the details. so he said he was open to revenue being increased through tax reform but tax reform is extremely complicated and the fiscal cliff goes off at the end of december. we have to figure out what we'll do. the president and i would love to see tax reform but what will we do in the mean time? the president said we need to extend the tax cuts for the middle class immediately, because that impacts 98% of americans and 97% of small businesses. so i think that's the action that we need to take immediately, and i'm hoping with boehner's tone that he would aagree to that. >> we have a comment from senator marco rubio. obvious
